How does Dioctyl Capsules work?
Dioctyl Capsules (Docusate sodium) is a stool softener and provides relief when the bowel movement is painful or difficult if you are constipated or suffer from piles or anal fissure.
The active ingredient in Dioctyl capsules, Docusate sodium which is a type of medication called a laxative. It works by increasing the amount of water the stool absorbs in the gut, making the stool softer and easier to pass. It also helps to stimulate the muscles in your bowel, pushing it through your back passage so you can push it out more easily.

What you need to know before you take Dioctyl
Do not take Dioctyl 100mg capsules :
• if you are allergic to docusate sodium or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
• if you are suffering from stomach pains
• if you are feeling sick, or have been sick in the last 24 hours
• if you have a blocked bowel (intestinal obstruction)
• if you have been told you are unable to take a sugar called fructose. Dioctyl contains sorbitol
and is therefore unsuitable for you.
Warnings and precautions
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Dioctyl:
• if you need to take a laxative every day
• if you have regular or constant stomach pain.
Other health conditions should be excluded before taking this medicine.
The treatment of constipation with Dioctyl is only additional to a healthy lifestyle and diet (such as increased intake of fluids, dietary fibre and exercise).

To make your poo softer and easier to pass:
- drink plenty of fluids and avoid alcohol
- increase the fibre in your diet
- add some wheat bran, oats or linseed to your diet
IMPROVING YOUR TOILET ROUTINE
Keep to a regular time and place and give yourself plenty of time to use the toilet.
Do not delay if you feel the urge to poo.
To make it easier to poo, try resting your feet on a low stool while going to the toilet. If possible, raise your knees above your hips.
CONSIDER INCREASING YOUR ACTIVITY
A daily walk or run can help you poo more regularly.
